Why should you use this strategy?
The email marketing referral strategy is two-fold.
First, you promote your referral partner. By promoting your partner, they will feel a need to reciprocate
in some way.
Second, your audience
will appreciate
the information and not feel like you are pushing an ulterior motive. For example, if an insurance agent
promotes a good electrician, the homeowner is provided value without questioning the motivation of the agent.
When to Use,
if the majority of your leads come from referral partners.

Step 1: Create a list of referral partners to promoteList Item 1
Write down 12 referral partners you have, or would like to have.

Step 2: Ask permissionList Item 2
Give your referral partners a phone call. Ask if it is okay to promote their business. 9 times out of 10, they will appreciate the offer.
A phone call also puts you top of mind. Half the time, this call generates referrals on its own.

Step 3: Ask for contentList Item 3
Brainstorm with your referral partners about the best content to promote.
Some examples include:
- A story about how they helped a customer
- Services on their website
- Blogs on their website
- A story about how their product/service helps solve a problem
- A story about how their product/services works

Step 4: Create a landing page or blog pageList Item 4
Get this content on your website. If it’s helpful, other people will want to know about it. You will also use this blog as your call-to-action in the next step.
Remember to always add a conversion at the end of your blog. Something like, “Did you find this helpful? Click here to subscribe to get more helpful tips”

Step 5: Write a marketing email
Write an email that grabs your reader’s attention. Once you have their attention, pull them through the email by:
- Peaking interested in the content
- Creating desire
- Getting the reader to take action
Buy the end of the email, your reader should want to go to the landing page you created in step 4.

Step 6: Send your email using marketing email software
Our preferred software is Hubspot. However, Mail Chimp and Constant Contact are also good alternatives.

Step 7: Repeat steps 2 through 7 for each referral partner outlined in step 1
