We’ve been diving deep into the world of Google’s AI suite of tools, FX, in our weekly series on content creation and marketing with artificial intelligence. Each week, we test what’s worth your time—and what’s just shiny hype.
This week, we’re tackling a question we hear often: In the age of AI, how do you know which tools are actually good for content creation?
Between blogging, social media, video, and email campaigns, small businesses are busier than ever trying to stay relevant. And now, the flood of AI tools promises more speed and convenience—but it can also feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re breaking it down for you.
Google Flow: A Highlight from Google FX
This week’s standout tool is Flow, Google's brand-new AI video generator powered by Veo. It’s part of the Google Labs FX collection and it’s built to help creators generate high-quality videos from text and image prompts.
So what’s the appeal for small business owners?
Simple:
Flow helps you tell your story visually—faster. Whether you're creating content for:
Social media campaigns- Email marketing
- Blog intros or explainer videos
- Display and video ads
Flow can produce video clips in minutes, saving time on filming, editing, and finding stock footage. Think of it like having your own mini production studio—without the overhead.
Step-by-Step Guide: How to Try Google Flow for Free
Flow is still in early access via Google Labs FX, but you can try it. Just follow these steps:
1. Visit the Official Flow Tool Page
Head to labs.google/fx/tools/flow and click on Get Started.
2. Sign In with Your Google Account
You’ll need to sign in and accept the invite to the tool.
3. Start Your Free Trial
You will need to click on the subscribe button.
Flow gives you
one free month to experiment. But there are a couple of caveats:
- You’ll need to enter credit card information.
- You receive a limited number of generation credits (use them wisely!).
- If you don’t cancel before the month ends, your card will be charged.
Important tip: Set a calendar reminder to cancel if you don’t plan to continue.
4. Begin Creating
Once you’re in, you can start building your first AI video using either:
- Text prompts only
- Text and image combinations for more refined control
We’ll show you how to use both methods next.
Using Text and Images to Prompt Flow Video Creation
One of Flow’s strengths is how intuitive it feels. You can guide the look and tone of your video using both descriptive prompts and uploaded images. Here's how to get the most out of it:
Start with a Clear Prompt
Use natural language. For example:
“Create a 30-second video of a woman running on the beach at sunrise with calm music.”
Flow will interpret and generate a video based on this scene.
You can also use tools like
ChatGPT or
Gemini to create the prompts for you. Ask them to “Create a prompt for Flow for me about a woman running on the beach at sunrise with calm music.”
Upload a Visual Guide
Add an image that matches your vision—a product photo, a mood board, or a branded visual.
This helps Flow:
- Match colors and style
- Focus on the right subject
- Nail your brand feel
Refine and Regenerate
If the first result isn’t perfect, you can tweak your prompt and regenerate until you’re happy with the result (as long as you have credits).
Pro Tip: Try Scripts for Email and Blog
You can repurpose your Flow videos across multiple platforms. For example:
- Use a Flow video at the top of a blog post
- Add it as a GIF or clip in an email campaign
- Share it as a teaser on Facebook or Instagram
Try using it with text generated in Google Gemini or ChatGPT to maintain message consistency across your channels.

What We Think: Is Google Flow Worth Trying?
If you’re a content creator, solopreneur, or small business owner, Flow is worth testing out—especially during the free trial.
Here’s why:
- It eliminates the need for expensive editing tools or video stock subscriptions
- It allows you to scale up short-form video content fast
- It helps you match visuals with your brand voice
But—watch your usage. The credit system can burn fast if you’re testing a lot of versions. Plan your prompts and get specific.
