Business Reviews 👩🏾‍💻 | Stop Hesitating And Ask With Confidence

Fear of rejection is wired into our primal brain. Because rejection means being cast out from the tribe, it means going hungry, and it means death.

Fear of rejection is wired into our primal brain. Because rejection means being cast out from the tribe, it means going hungry, and it means death.

So, as a business, you don't ask for a review. Because rejection means being cast out from the tribe, it means going hungry, and it means death.

So, whatever you do, don't ask for a review. Nobody has ever run a successful business getting good, positive feedback (the marketer chuckles to himself sarcastically).

In all seriousness, asking for a review is critical to running a successful business.

And here's why,

  • 9 out of 10 people read a review before they make a purchase - brightlocal
  • 84% of people trust reviews as much as friends - Inc.
  • 73% of consumers only pay attention to reviews written in the last month - smallbiztrends

So, the stats tell us logically that we should solicit reviews. Our gut still tells us, DON'T DO IT. So the next excuse is, I don't know what to write. Well, let's help you with that.

Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1: Open your email

Step 2: Start a new email

Step 3: Write a subject line

The subject line is simple. Start with your client's name, write thank you, and then something about them, so the subject is personal.

Example:
Joe, a quick thank you and that new bathroom, wow!

Step 4: Write an email

Again, thank the person. Write something personal about them. Remember, make it about them. Then write about how they made you a better person. Transition the conversation from them to you.

Next, ask for a 5-star review. ALWAYS ASK FOR 5-STARS. By asking for 5-stars, you subconsciously plant the seed that "if they decide to give you a review, it has to be 5-stars. Because what crazy person would click on a link that says give five stars and then give a 4-star review.

Example:
I want to take a second to say thank you. The new house is fantastic! I was excited that we could get the financing to work out the way we needed it. You guys were great to work with, and you made everything smooth.

Also, if you have a minute, please leave us a 5-star review [insert review link]. Reviews really help us grow our business and help more people like you.

Thank you in advance for your 5-star review.

Step 5: Repeat after every new invoice.

Step 6: Respond to every review

Google is crawling your reviews and Google My Business listing. Depending on what they find, you will show up on Google Maps search engine results page (SERP) and local SERP. Or your competition will.

Make sure you respond to every review and include the product or service and the location.

Example:
Thank you so much for reviewing our mortgage company. We really enjoyed helping you with your FHA Loan. Your new home in Palm Harbor is impressive! I'm happy we could be a part of such a milestone for you.
