Fortune 500 Marketing Tricks Small Businesses Must Adopt

Justin Babcock • Oct 01, 2019

Repurposing creative is the one thing the big guys do well.

They are also writing several posts, blogs, and email sequences at the same time. They are continually looking at the metrics and adjusting to increase traffic, conversions, and customers.

It doesn't require a lot of work, just a little discipline. Read on to learn more.

Repurpose Your Creative

Have you ever noticed Nike's print ad, looks like the Nike commercial, and looks like the Nike Facebook ad, and looks like the Nike banner ad? There is a reason for that.

It's called repetitive creative and it serves two purposes. One, there is a consistent message that allows people to hear and see the same thing across multiple outlets. Second, the company doesn't have to create new images/video for every advertising platform saving time and money.

Small businesses, on the other hand, tend to have a new idea for every marketing campaign. They create new messages and have new images. They start from scratch and add hours of work to every project. The changing creative leads to a confusing message and wasted effort.

Stop reinventing the wheel and increase your marketing activity with the same effort.

How... go back through your marketing efforts over the last two years. What was your best campaign? Now spruce it up a little and configure it for social media, email marketing, a blog post, and a digital marketing campaign. Spread your budget around and see what tactic has the best numbers, which brings us to point 2.

Measure and Adjust

With all the free Technology available for tracking marketing campaigns, it's a sin not to know your impressions, clicks, and conversions. The big guys know what's going on. They also understand that markets shift, so set it and forget it doesn't work.

Stop the guessing game about which marketing campaigns work and which ones don't. You have the same tools available to you as a fortune 500 company. The only difference is they look at the numbers regularly, and you look at the numbers sporadicly if at all.

Writing in Bulk

The last thing the big guys do well is writing in bulk. They will identify a goal like increasing website conversations. Then they will develop a theme, a call to action, a few general messages, a few tag lines, and a few titles that they think will help reach that goal.

From there, the big guys will write a handful of blogs, landing pages, digital ads, social posts, and email sequences. They will repurpose some of the same paragraphs across the platforms and mediums. The big guys repurpose creative to save time writing and keep a consistent message.

Small businesses tend to write when they can find the time, and the theme tends to be the first thing that pops into their heads.

Instead, try blocking out 3 hours twice a month, find a quiet place, and write. If this is impossible (which is a reality), we suggest creating a master document in Google Docs and link it to your phone. When you get inspired, open the document and write. Most phones have a microphone option that let you dictate talk to text. Talk to text dictation is an excellent option for those of us who would rather talk through our thoughts than write. You can download a master doc template here.

In the ever-evolving digital landscape, establishing an online presence is paramount for every business. A well-structured and designed website can greatly enhance your brand's visibility and credibility. However, the process of creating a website can be daunting, especially when confronted with decisions like the cost of hiring a designer, how to find a suitable one, or opting for a do-it-yourself (DIY) approach using website builders like Wix or Squarespace. Making an informed choice can be challenging, but it's not impossible. Figuring Out Your Budget and Time: The Classic Decision Building a website involves an investment of both time and money. Hiring a designer can cost between $100 to $200 per website page, whereas setting up a website yourself might consume around 4 hours per page. It's a classic time or money conundrum that forces you to reassess your priorities. Do you have the design skills to build a website yourself? If not, using DIY applications may extend the time it takes for you to establish your online presence. However, if your budget is tight, investing your time into learning and implementing the process might be a viable option. DIY Website Builders: A Blessing or a Curse? Website builders like Wix, Squarespace, and WordPress have made website creation accessible to everyone, regardless of technical expertise. But are they always the best choice? Wix Pros: Wix offers an intuitive drag-and-drop interface and a variety of templates, which make it easy for beginners to create a website. It also provides advanced features for more seasoned users. Cons: The flexibility of Wix can also be its downfall, as the wide range of options can be overwhelming. Its SEO capabilities have been criticized, and the free plan comes with ads. Squarespace Pros: Squarespace is known for its sleek, professional design templates. It offers comprehensive features and excellent customer support. Cons: Squarespace's pricing is slightly higher compared to other builders, and the platform can be less intuitive for first-time users. WordPress Pros: WordPress offers incredible flexibility and control, with thousands of themes and plugins. It's a great choice for blogs due to its strong content management system. Cons: WordPress has a steeper learning curve compared to other builders, and you may need to handle updates and security measures manually.
