Email Marketing in 2020 | Gone are the days of the Nigerian Prince

Justin Babcock • April 14, 2020

So, you probably remember the money laundering Nigerian prince. He has $65,000,000 dollars that he needs to transfer to you. You WILL get to keep 20%. All you need to do is give him you bank account number.

Well, when email first hit the mainstream, scams like this worked. And in less fraudulent terms, you could buy email addresses of potential customers, email them your service and product offering, and see a return on your cold email marketing campaign.

Unfortunately, cold emails (emails to people that don’t know you or your brand) are no longer viable. At best, they are unsuccessful. At worst, they are illegal due to CAN-SPAM laws.

Yes, cold email is dead. BUT, email marketing is still a vary important part of your digital marketing strategy.
