Turn Text into Lifelike Speech with Amazon Polly: Creating Interactive Image Videos

Justin Babcock • January 29, 2021

The speech output generated by Polly is very human-like. It is easy to use and offers few variations in the speech. The pricing for this service is the lowest compared to other cloud service providers.

Amazon Polly is a service that turns text into lifelike speech. This allows you to take your weekly blog text and convert into a video with images. The Benefits of Amazon Polly are that you have a natural sounding voice, you have the ability to store and redistribute the speech, you have real-time streaming, the ability to customize and control speech output and it is a low cost.

With Amazon Polly, you only pay for what you use. You are charged based on the number of characters of text that you convert. You can cache and replay Amazon Polly’s generated speech at no additional cost. With the Free Tier you get up to 1 million characters which is roughly 23 hours of speech. If you go over the 1 million free characters you “pay as you go.” Pricing is roughly $4.00 per 1 million characters.

Content Creation

Audio can be used as a complementary media to written and/or visual communication. By voicing your content, you can provide your audience with an alternative way to consume information and meet the needs of a larger pool of readers.

Amazon Polly can generate speech in dozens of languages, making it easy to add speech to applications with a global audience, such as RSS feeds, websites, or videos. Check out the video example below as I have converted the text above with screenshot images. 👇🏻
