Luxury hair extension and color salon | Salt Lake City, UT

Skandia Kollektiv: a salon website wired to bookings, ads and follow-up

Skandia Kollektiv is a luxury hair salon in Salt Lake City specializing in NBR hair extensions and color. We rebuilt their Duda site as a mobile-first hair salon website, sent their Boulevard bookings to Google Ads, and built an admin portal for their leads plus a Content Studio for their weekly newsletter.

The client

About Skandia Kollektiv

Skandia Kollektiv is a Salt Lake City hair salon specializing in NBR (Natural Beaded Row) and hand-tied hair extensions, color and gray blending. Guests book through Boulevard, apply online for extension and color consultations, and call from ads and the salon's Google Business Profile. This hair salon website design project had to connect all of those paths, and the owner runs parts of it herself.

The challenge

Why They Came to Us

Skandia Kollektiv's site ran on Duda, and their Google Ads account was spending without a clear picture of which ads produced real consultations and bookings.

  • Duda's export came out as separate desktop, tablet and mobile files instead of one responsive site
  • The old conversion setup counted the same form submit three times and counted YouTube views and subscribes as conversions
  • A 21-term list of blocked keywords was never attached to a campaign, and a competitor's brand name was running as a keyword with zero conversions
  • Consultation follow-up emails ran from a spreadsheet script, and Gmail was blocking them because the domain lacked email authentication
  • DNS sat at Wix, which blocked the mail records the salon needed to send from its own domain
The plan

What We Proposed

Our local plan started from one idea: for this salon, the Google Business Profile map pack brings in more real customers than ordinary search rankings, so the website and a review engine should feed it.

  • Rebuild the Duda site as one mobile-first site and keep its blog
  • A review engine and regular Google Business Profile posts
  • EOS planning tools (a Scorecard and a Vision/Traction Organizer) inside the admin portal, as the owner asked
  • Count only real actions in Google Ads: calls, applications and bookings
The build

What We Built

Website

A mobile-first rebuild of the Duda site, traced from the live desktop design.

  • One responsive site, checked for zero sideways scrolling at five screen widths
  • 51 blog posts moved from Duda, plus new gray blending (July 2026) and Park City (October 2026) pages
  • NBR and color consultation applications with source tracking, reCAPTCHA and a confirmation that only shows when the application arrives
  • Boulevard's own booking overlay, loaded so each online booking keeps its Google Analytics source
  • Native FAQ accordions, HairSalon schema with author markup and an llms.txt file

Booking to Google Ads pipeline

Boulevard bookings flow into Google Ads as conversions, so the account learns from real appointments.

  • A custom endpoint uploads each booking through the Google Ads API with Enhanced Conversions for Leads
  • Built because Boulevard offers no free API and Zapier's built-in Google Ads action no longer worked
  • Runs twice a day in the cloud and checks every row before it uploads
  • Google Ads rates the import health Excellent

Admin portal

The salon's leads, follow-up, reviews and planning in one private portal.

  • Leads pipeline with an Applications view of each guest's goals, timeline and hair length, plus Spam and newsletter tabs and an Add lead button
  • The salon's 10-email consultation sequences for NBR and color, sent from its own verified domain with each lead mirrored to its existing Google Sheet
  • A Google Reviews board fed by completed Boulevard visits: a check-in text, a review ask, then a take-home product suggestion
  • EOS tools the owner asked for: a bi-weekly Scorecard, a V/TO with a rolling four-quarter planner, and To-Dos
  • A built-in AI assistant that analyzes leads, manages follow-ups and drafts review replies, limited to Skandia's data and unable to delete anything

Content Studio

A weekly AI-drafted newsletter the owner approves from her inbox, now with blog and social posts.

  • Each issue starts from a live web search for current hair trends
  • The owner approves with one tap, and it sends through the salon's own email sending account
  • Five content pillars, from extension education to Salt Lake seasons
  • Blog posts publish straight into the salon's website, and Facebook and Instagram posts are drafted for approval

Google Ads

An account cleanup so spend goes to searches that turn into consultations and bookings.

  • 54 new negative keywords, each replayed against 90 days of real searches before it went in
  • Conversions trimmed to real actions: calls of 90 seconds or more, applications and bookings
  • A gray blending landing page for the gray hair campaign, which had been sending clicks to the homepage
  • Budget shifts, paused dead campaigns, and a custom GA4 channel group so Google Business Profile visits stop showing up as Unassigned

Owner-run tools

The salon owns its site and accounts, and the owner can edit the site with her own Claude Code.

  • The site lives in the salon's own GitHub and Vercel accounts; we build and co-manage it
  • A project guide and five Claude Code skills (publish, edit a page, add a testimonial, add a blog post, work together) so the owner can edit and publish with her own Claude Code
  • A do-not-rename list of live ad landing pages, so no edit breaks a running campaign
  • DNS moved from Wix to Vercel so the salon sends verified email from its own domain
Problem solving

How We Solved the Hard Parts

  1. Booking attribution through a third-party widget

Boulevard's booking overlay looks up visitor IDs through a Google tag call that never answers on sites that use only Google Tag Manager. We load the Google tag first without double-counting page views, then Boulevard, with a timeout so booking never breaks, and verified the full funnel in GA4 Realtime.

  2. Bookings Google Ads could not see

With no free Boulevard API and a broken Zapier action, we built a Google Sheets bridge and a custom endpoint that uploads each booking to Google Ads, then moved it to a twice-daily cloud job.

  3. Negative keywords that could block buyers

Before attaching the old negative list, we replayed every term against 90 days of real searches. Four of them, including "wig" and "cheap", would have blocked searches that converted, so they came out. The cleanup cut about $338 a month of waste without blocking one converting search.

  4. Email blocked at the DNS host

Wix's DNS blocked the mail records the salon needed. We moved DNS to Vercel and verified the salon's domain for sending, so consultation emails and newsletters go out from skandiakollektiv.com.

  5. Two editors on one website

The owner edits with her own Claude Code while we build. Shared working rules (start from the latest version, publish only through GitHub), written skills and a do-not-rename table for live ad pages keep us from breaking each other's work.

Results

The Results So Far

In the two weeks to October 8, 2026, Google Ads cost per conversion fell 14%, from $254 to $218, on 9% less spend. The July negative keyword cleanup also cut an estimated $338 a month of wasted spend without blocking a single converting search.

Boulevard bookings now reach Google Ads twice a day, so bidding learns from real appointments. We review the numbers every two weeks, and next we are watching the new Park City page and the Studio's first local blog posts.

Cost per conversion comes from Google Ads in matched 14-day windows; the wasted-spend figure is an estimate from 90 days of search term data.

Questions

Questions About This Project

Can Boulevard bookings be tracked in Google Ads?

Yes. For Skandia Kollektiv, Boulevard's overlay carries each visitor's Google Analytics IDs, and a custom pipeline uploads bookings to Google Ads as conversions twice a day. Google rates the import Excellent.

Who owns the salon's website?

The salon does. The site lives in Skandia Kollektiv's own GitHub and Vercel accounts, and we build and co-manage it alongside the owner.

What does the admin portal do for a salon?

It holds every lead and application, runs the consultation email sequences, lines up Google review requests after completed visits, and keeps the owner's EOS Scorecard and V/TO. A built-in AI assistant answers questions about leads and drafts review replies.
